On Saturday, April 13, 2024, the 43rd College Television Awards honored excellence in student production during a ceremony held at the Television Academy's North Hollywood campus in California. Twenty-one student-produced programs were nominated from 181 entries submitted by 37 colleges and universities. "Sports Final," Ithaca College Television's weekly local sports show, was one of three finalists in the "Sports" category. The ceremony also streamed live on YouTube.
Per the Television Academy's website, "Designed to emulate the Emmy Awards, student entries are judged by Television Academy members; three projects are nominated in each of the seven categories. Criteria for the College Television Awards reflects industry standards of excellence, imagination and innovation." The awards competition is administered by the Television Academy Foundation.
The nominated Sports Final episode aired on April 23, 2023 and was produced by Ryan Spadafina '24, Bryan Manchester '25 and Julia Foster '25 and anchored by Rheanna DeCrow '25 and Eli Fishman '25. It was produced with support from ICTV Sports Director Joshua Silverstein '23. Lauren Mitchell '23 was the episode's director. The full episode can be viewed here.
First place in the "Sports" category went to "SportsDesk: The Magazine Edition" produced by students at the University of Miami. "Teammates: Honoring Sam Mills" produced by students at Montclair State University was also a finalist in the category.
IC students Ryan Spadafina, Bryan Manchester and Eli Fishman attended the awards ceremony. During the academic year, Sports Final airs live Sunday nights from 8:00 - 8:30 PM on ICTV and covers local sports and teams including Ithaca College, Cornell University, local high schools and New York's professional teams.
