Two librarians presented at the Evidence Synthesis Institute in Minneapolis April 15-18.

Laura Kuo and Kristina Shanton served on a panel along with colleagues from Cornell Libraries at the Evidence Synthesis Institute (ESI), held April 15-18, 2024, in Minneapolis. The three day conference brought together librarians from the US, Canada, and the UK.  The panel members presented “Evidence Synthesis: Fostering a Local Community of Practice for Academic Librarians” where they described the creation of a Community of Practice (CoP) uniting academic librarians from the two schools. Through shared learning via a community diverse in experience and expertise, the panel described how they have created a space that fosters support, sharing, and professional growth all of which enhances the librarians’ position to provide ES research assistance on various levels in their academic institution.

Laura Kuo presented “Empowering Future Practitioners: Integrating Evidence-Based Medicine Through a Critically Appraised Topic Assignment in Physician Assistant Education” where she examined using Critically Appraised Topics (CATs) in the classroom as a way to connect research evidence and clinical application.
