Ellie Burke Named Assistant Director for New Student and Transition Programs

The Office of New Student and Transition Programs is excited to welcome a new Assistant Director, Ellie Burke (she/they), who will begin at Ithaca College on Monday, May 20.

Ellie comes to Ithaca with various higher ed skills and experiences, including orientation, first-year learning programs, accessibility education, and assessment. Most recently, Ellie coordinated a Leadership and Organizational Development program in Student Activities at the University of Connecticut, where she also completed a master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs. A guiding principle and passion in Ellie’s work is educating and advocating for accessibility and inclusion in higher education, which they have presented on at both regional and national conferences.

Ellie earned a bachelor's degree in Visual Communication, Interactive Multimedia with a specialization in Digital Marketing from Ohio University. During this time, Ellie supported Ohio’s First-Year and Student Transitions office as an Administrative Orientation Coordinator and an Orientation Leader.

“I fell in love with working in higher education as an Orientation Leader during my undergraduate career,” Ellie stated. “I love the community orientation programs create, the opportunity to support students during one of the biggest transitions in their lives, and the creativity that can come with integrating learning into student programming. I cannot wait to get to know the campus and learn everything I can about Ithaca College students.”

When not at work, Ellie enjoys crocheting, listening to music, reading, and a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
