The Office of Facilities would like to take this opportunity to notify the campus community of the pending closure of Baker Walkway beginning on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024. Now that the Spring semester has wrapped up, the walkway will need to be closed to allow for progress to be made with the Terrace Elevator Connector project.
As was previously communicated, the Terrace Elevator Connector will include the installation of a new 6-stop elevator through the Terrace Dining Hall and Terrace 1 Residence Hall, the creation of a new entry into the dining hall, two new all-gender bathrooms, and also the creation of an interior walkway that will provide direct access from the Baker Walkway to the dining hall, as well as the Terrace Bridge level.
With the priority of causing the least amount of disruption to campus operations during the spring semester, the project has been limited to the area directly adjacent to the Terrace Dining Hall, but must now move to Baker Walkway. Substantial completion is expected by mid-August to allow for the Baker Walkway and Terrace Dining Hall to be open for the start of the new academic year.
While the Baker Walkway is closed, additional temporary ADA accessible spaces will be added in the G and H Lots to accommodate individuals who may have been parking in the ADA accessible spaces in Lower J-Lot and traversing the Baker Walkway for access to Whalen Center or Gannett Center.
We apologize for any inconveniences that this project may cause during construction but are excited by the opportunities it will provide to our campus community once completed. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Office of Facilities at (607) 274-3225. Thanks again for your patience and understanding.
