The title of her presentation was “Persecución, crimen y crítica en Personas decentes de Leonardo Padura,” which analyzed how the Cuban author Leonardo Padura criticizes in his most recent novel (Personas decentes, 2022) the persecution of writers, artists, and homosexuals by the Cuban government during the quinquenio gris (1971-1976). Prof. Varona-Lacey also chaired the panel “Metaficción, protesta y crítica en la narrativa hispanoamericana actual.
