Not Registered to Vote - Here's What to Do!

If you want to register to vote first ensure that you meet these criteria:

  1. You’re a citizen of the US
  2. You will be age 18 on or before election day, November 5, 2024

You can register to vote using either your permanent address or your College address. It is up to you to register where you think you would prefer to have your vote counted.  (Please note that if you register using your home address, you should prepare to request an absentee ballot or to go home during Election Day or early voting days).

Each state has different registration procedures and deadlines. You can research the rules for your state here: vote.gov

The deadline to register to vote in NY State is 10 days before election day. (If you are mailing a registration form it must be postmarked 15 days before and received 10 days before election day.)

If you’re not sure if you are registered you can check your registration status or can register to vote at vote.gov.

Some, but not all, states require you to register with a political party in order to vote in primary elections.

Check with your state or local election office for more information.
