Pope Paul VI famously wrote, "if you want peace, work for justice." The Ithaca Peace Festival returns to St. Catherine parish this weekend. All are invited to learn about different ways that we can pursue justice and peace in our daily lives.

WHERE: 309 Siena Drive, Ithaca, NY

Thursday, Sept 12:

  • 6pm: Community viewing of "Divisible," a documentary by Lizzie Barrett, of Ithaca, about the practice of redlining. Cinemapolis, downtown Ithaca.

Friday, Sept. 13 (all events at St. Catherine parish):

  • 6pm: Peace Cafe opens for food and drink
  • 7pm: "Reimagining Public Safety." Monalita Smiley, Director, Community Justice Center
  • 8pm: Community sing-along of well-known songs about peace and justice. Lyrics provided.
  • 8.30pm: Reception in Mahler Hall

Saturday, Sept. 14:

  • 4pm: Mass in the church.
  • 5.15: Supper for sale.
  • 6.00: "Witnessing for Peace." Dan and Linda Finlay (Linda Finlay is a retired professor of Philosophy at IC)
  • 7.00: Interfaith panel. Ruth Yarrow (Ithaca Friends Meeting) and Mahmud Burton (Al-Huda Islamic Center) will talk about approaches to peace in their faith traditions.

Throughout the event, there will be a Silent Auction of many items and services, from beautiful to useful to quirky. Final bids will be taken until 12.00 on Sunday, Sept. 15. Winning bidders will be notified and can pick up their items from 2-4pm.
