As the Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Life and your SGC President at Ithaca College, we wanted to reach out to remind you of the importance of registering to vote in the upcoming elections.
Voting is a fundamental right and responsibility that allows us to have a say in the decisions that affect our lives, both locally and nationally. Whether you're passionate about education, environmental issues, economics, healthcare, immigration, or any other issue that matters to you, voting is one of the most powerful ways you can make your voice heard and influence the future of your community, your country, and the world.
As college students, you are shaping the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators, and your voice is critical in deciding who makes the decisions that impact your education, job opportunities, and rights. By voting, you help ensure that the issues you care about are addressed by those in power. Your vote is your voice — make sure it is heard and helps create the future you want to see.
Here are a few quick reasons why registering to vote is crucial:
- Your Voice Matters: Every vote counts. By registering and voting, you can help shape the future of our community and country.
- Make a Difference: Voting allows you to support candidates and policies that align with your values and beliefs.
- Be Informed: Engaging in the electoral process encourages you to stay informed about current events and issues that impact our society.
Registering to vote is easy and can typically be done online! Check out vote.gov to learn more and get started!
The deadline to register is approaching soon, so don’t delay! The deadline to register electronically to vote in New York State is 10 days prior to election day, however, each state’s deadlines differ. Take a few minutes today to ensure your voter registration is up to date.
Students can register using their Ithaca College address or their home address – you decide where you most want your vote to count.
