Goodbye & Good Luck to Jess Shapiro!

By Mish Lenhart, October 9, 2024

Congratulations to Jess Shapiro, who will be leaving IC to start a new adventure as the Program Manager in the College of Arts & Sciences Career Development office at Cornell University.

Jess's last day on Campus will be Monday, October 14, and we will be hosting a gathering to celebrate with her on Friday, October 11 from 11am to 1pm in the Student Activities Center on the 3rd floor of Campus Center. Please stop by to wish Jess farewell, and enjoy an ice cream treat!

During her time as Assistant Director of Student Engagement, Jess has served as the advisor to the Senior Class, IC After Dark, and Senior Week. She has helped students in these groups plan large events for the entire campus to celebrate a variety of occasions. As one current Senior class officer said this week, "We are so lucky to get to work with Jess, she is the best at her job!" So, it is clear that Jess will be sincerely missed!

Jess has collaborated with dozens of departments on campus to provide over 200 workshops per year in the Student Leadership Institute. These workshops are attended by almost 25% of the student body and provide a wide variety of meaningful and important information to students. She created the Campus Center Programming grant to ensure that there are evening and weekend events for students to attend, coordinated the first three years of the Co-Curricular Symposium for students to present their learning outside of the classroom, and started Emerging Leaders Weekend for new students to learn about employment and involvement opportunities at IC. She has served on many campus committees and did a lot of other amazing things, too - just too many to write here!

Jess has been an outstanding colleague and we are going to miss her - and her systems - very much! We wish her all the best and appreciate all that she has contributed at IC, during her time working in OSE, the Campus Center, and Residential Life!

Please contact OSE@ithaca.edu with any questions about who will be handling items that you would typically work with Jess on. Our team will direct you to the correct contact!
