Dear Campus Community,
The Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management is excited to announce Traffic Safety Education Week, taking place from October 14th to 16th. This initiative aims to raise awareness about safe driving practices to help reduce accidents on our campus.
During this week, Public Safety will conduct traffic stops to promote awareness and responsible driving, specifically as it relates to distracted driving, stop sign violations and speeding. If you receive a campus summons related to traffic safety during this time, under most circumstances, you will have the opportunity to attend an educational program to reduce the campus summons to a warning.
Our key goals for Traffic Safety Education Week include:
- Promoting safe driving
- Enhancing the safety of drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists
- Raising awareness of traffic laws and campus safety
- Reducing traffic accidents
- Providing educational information about the importance of traffic safety
- Fostering positive engagement between Public Safety and the community to create a safer campus
We will offer an educational program titled “Drive Safe, Arrive Safe” through the Student Leadership Institute on Tuesday, October 22nd, and Wednesday, October 23rd. Faculty and staff can attend a similar session focused on vehicle and traffic safety during the noon hour on Thursday, October 24th in the Six Mile Creek room. During these programs, Public Safety officers will discuss the importance of traffic safety, share local and campus-wide statistics, identify common causes of traffic accidents, provide safe driving tips and an overview of traffic laws and enforcement. More information about the workshops and traffic safety will be available during traffic stops.
Our goal is to enhance campus safety and create an environment where everyone can live, learn, thrive, and feel safe as drivers and pedestrians on our campus. We appreciate your participation and commitment to making our campus safer for all. Thank you for your attention, and let’s work together to promote safe driving practices!
