The Office of Facilities would like to inform the campus community of construction that will be taking place over Fall Break that will affect the flow of pedestrian traffic in certain areas of campus.
Baker Walkway- Baker Walkway will be closed beginning on Thursday, October 17th to allow for the flooring to be installed within the new Terrace Elevator Connector. The Walkway will reopen for normal use by Saturday, October 19th.
Southeastern F-Lot and West Exterior Entries to Smiddy Hall and Center for Health Science- To allow for the installation of the new cooling tower for Smiddy Hall, the drop off lane outside of the entries to Smiddy Hall and CHS will be closed for a very short amount of time during the morning on Thursday, October 17th as a small crane lifts fall protection materials onto the roof. On Friday, October 18th, the southeastern portion of F-Lot, as well as the drop off lane outside the entries to Smiddy Hall and CHS will be closed to allow for a large crane and support vehicles to set up for the removal of the old tower and the lifting of the new tower. The western entries into Smiddy Hall and CHS will also be closed on this day to allow the crane to make multiple lifts overhead of the entries. As soon as the crane work has been completed, the parking lot, as well as entryways will be reopened.
Center for Health Science and Williams Hall Exterior Entries- Beginning on Thursday, October 17th, exterior door replacements will be taking place as part of the card access project. Contractors will begin with the CHS single northern door that accesses the North Terrace from the atrium and then move to the northern door on the 1st Floor. It is expected that on Monday, October 21st, the contractor will move to Williams Hall, beginning with the automatic doors on the east end of the building. The work in this area is expected to take about a week and then they will return to CHS to complete the 2nd floor North and South Entries.
Emergency egress will always be maintained while the door work is being performed. Signage will be in place to direct individuals to the nearest alternative door for non-emergency entry and exit. Door work is expected to be completed by November 8th, barring weather and any other unforeseen delays.
We apologize for any inconvenience these projects may cause and appreciate your patience as we work to make these important investments in our physical plant. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Facilities Customer Care Center at 607-274-3225. Thank you!
