What is SGC? Student Governance Council is the sole representative body for the Ithaca College student community. All students are represented by our many Senators who are guided by the Executive Board as they work with the IC community to implement change on campus and improve student life. SGC also therefore serves as the link between the students and the Senior Leadership Team, communicating with these individuals regularly and providing student feedback on campus issues and plans. You can find out even more about SGC on our website, through contacting us directly, or even by attending one of our weekly, open Senate Meetings, every Monday in the Taughannock Falls Room on the third floor of Campus Center at 7PM.
What is the Vice President of Academic Affairs position? The Vice President of Academic Affairs is an SGC Executive Board position charged with advocating for the academic needs of the student body. They will review curriculum, registration, academic procedures, academic programs that affect the student body, and academic concerns of the student body.
To accomplish these goals, the VPoAA:
- Oversees the Academic Senators (one per school).
- Meets with the Provost.
- Chairs the Scholarship Committee (once yearly).
- Serves as an ex-officio member of the Academic Policy Committee.
The Vice President of Academic Affairs serves on the Executive Board of SGC. This includes duties such as:
- Attending weekly Senate and Eboard Meetings.
- Collaborating on goals of the current Eboard.
- Communicating with the college’s leaders.
- Aiding Senators in SGC policy and initiatives.
All in all, there are so many opportunities for leadership and to help the IC Community in this role!
