The Department of Writing presents the first Handwerker Student Reading of the academic year this Tuesday, October 29 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Handwerker Gallery (located on the first floor in Gannett Center, below the library).

Join us to celebrate these five featured student writers:

Pete Dorman is a second-year writing major and a third-rate crossword completionist. Their work has been featured in Stillwater Magazine, coalitionworks, Robot Butt, Dead End Zine, and the Ithaca College Writing Contest. In their free time they re-scramble solved Rubik’s Cubes and come up with other fake hobbies to put in author bios.

Aud Fitzgerald is a junior APRMC major with a Writing minor. They enjoy writing personal essays and fridge magnet poetry. They also dabble in writing media reviews for the Ministry of Cool section of Buzzsaw Magazine. Other than writing, their hobbies include graphic design and hiking.

Rory Waugh is a second-year writing major, screenwriting minor, and if Ithaca College ever unlocks a third writing program he’ll probably pick that up too. He’s a part of the IC Unbound Dance Company and works part-time at the Ithaca College Food Court. When he’s not dancing or boxing chicken tenders, he’s either writing about seagulls or thinking about writing about seagulls.

Clare Lickona is a Junior studying photography and writing. Her genres of choice are poetry, fiction, and lyricism. She has a passion for the spoken word, integrating it into her original music. Clare’s poetry explores topics such as the fragile human memory, family lineage, and social empathy. Her favorite author is Stephen King.

Sofia Soto is a sophomore TVDM major with a minor in writing. Her work has been featured in Buzzsaw Magazine, Fiction Attic Press, the Ithaca College Writing Contest, and the upcoming Spring 2025 Oakland Arts Review. She was previously a guide for the New Voices Literary Festival and the Distinguished Visiting Writers Series. When she’s not writing, she is reading, filming, or napping.

All are welcome to attend. Please spread the word and bring a friend.
