Percussion Ensemble: 'Drumming' by Steve Reich

By Eli Foodman, November 8, 2024

Join us for a landmark performance of Steve Reich’s 'Drumming', presented by the Ithaca College Percussion Ensemble. This monumental work, considered one of Reich’s greatest achievements in minimalist music, is an hour-long, four-movement masterpiece performed without pauses.

'Drumming' showcases Reich’s groundbreaking use of "phasing" and was inspired by his time in Ghana in the early 1970s. While parts of this work have been performed at Ithaca College, this will be the first full performance of the entire composition, featuring bongos, marimbas, glockenspiels, and two miked singers.
