This coming Saturday, November 16, the Ithaca College football team will travel up Route 13 to renew its historic matchup with SUNY Cortland in the 2024 installment of the Cortaca Jug rivalry. The tradition of this contest dates back to 1959 and for the first time since 2021 the clash hits the road to the home of the Red Dragons.
Cortaca is one the most anticipated events of the academic year and provides a unique opportunity to unify our entire campus community through school spirit and Ithaca College pride. Whether you are planning to make the trip to Cortland to catch the game in person, or you plan to remain in Ithaca, I implore you to not let your actions and behaviors jeopardize all you have accomplished to this point in the semester. Embrace the excitement and pageantry of the weekend, but please do so responsibly and respectfully.
Expected Behavior
Please be mindful of the following as you take part in Cortaca celebrations this weekend.
- Please treat all individuals with respect and dignity, regardless of the team they support or whether you agree or disagree with their words or actions.
- Please support Ithaca in a positive manner. Vulgarity and hate language that demeans players, coaches, officials, team representatives, and other spectators will not be tolerated.
- Do not throw objects both on the field or at other spectators in the stands. Also do not make attempts to leave the spectator areas to enter the field of play. Violation of these rules will lead to immediate ejection from the SUNY Cortland stadium complex and can lead to additional action from the Office of Student Conduct and local law enforcement.
- Fighting and other acts of physical violence – both in the stadium and the surrounding parking/tailgating areas – will result in Student Conduct action, including possible suspension or expulsion from Ithaca College.
- If you are traveling to Cortland this weekend, please do so safely. You can expect increased traffic on Route 13 and area roadways and an increased law enforcement presence. Do not operate a motor vehicle or accept a ride in a vehicle operated by somebody who is under the influence of alcohol and/or other drugs.
- Please be mindful of comments, photos, and videos you may post to your social media before, during, and after the game. Do not let your online profile have a detrimental impact during your time at Ithaca College and beyond.
- Whether you are remaining in Ithaca or traveling to Cortland, please be respectful of the people and property in our communities.
