Dr. Hongwei Guan Receives National Award

National Ski Patrol Outstanding Outdoor Emergency Care Award

Dr. Hongwei Guan, Associate Professor for the department of Health Sciences and Public Health, received the Senior Outstanding O.E.C Award from National Ski Patrol (NSP) on Saturday, Nov. 2nd, 2025. ​

Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) is the NSP’s award-winning training program for patrollers and others in the recreation community who deal with emergency situations. This nationally recognized program is designed to help first responders, including wilderness medical technicians, river rafting and mountaineering guides, members of search and rescue groups, mountain bike patrollers, and parks and recreation employees, manage the toughest emergencies in extreme weather conditions.

Since 2018, Dr. Guan is a volunteer patroller at Greek Peak Ski Patrol (GPSP) and he is now a Senior Alpine Patroller and NSP OEC instructor. He also volunteers for the bike patrol at Greek Peak during the Summer.
