Due to a January 9 federal court ruling, the U.S. Department of Education’s 2024 Title IX Regulations have been rescinded. As a result, all colleges and universities are once again subject to the 2020 Title IX Regulations, as they existed prior to the adoption of the new regulations on August 1, 2024.
In recent months, you have been introduced to the now-rescinded 2024 Regulations through both in-person and virtual training sessions. The key facts to understand about the reinstatement of the prior Title IX standards are as follows:
- The grievance process for cases of sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, or other forms of sex discrimination, including discrimination on the basis of pregnancy or pregnancy-related conditions or gender identity, will be conducted in accordance with the College’s pre-2024 Grievance Procedures that adhere to the current Title IX requirements.
- All employees are still required by College policy to report any disclosures of sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, or other forms of sex discrimination, including discrimination on the basis of pregnancy or pregnancy-related conditions or gender identity.
- Any employee who becomes aware of a student's pregnancy or pregnancy-related condition should provide that individual with the Title IX Coordinator's contact information.
- Regardless of the change in the regulatory environment, it is our collective responsibility as employees and as members of the Ithaca College community to foster a safe and inclusive campus environment. Please continue to contribute to a positive and affirming campus experience for all our community members by respecting individuals' gender pronouns and chosen names.
