Signup Deadline:Thursday, January 30th, 2025

This semester we are pleased to offer five days of teaching visits the week of February 3-7, 2025.  Well-respected instructors across many disciplines will open their classroom doors to their colleagues.

Would you like to observe one of your colleagues teach to see how they engage students, utilize the environment, or address challenging subjects?  Do you ever feel the empty isolation in learning to teach?  You’re not alone.  Too often in higher education instructors do not have the opportunity to watch and discuss each other’s teaching, and therefore we struggle in what Lee Shulman has called, “pedagogical solitude.”  The Center for Faculty Excellence works to shift this isolation by creating opportunities for pedagogical community.

The IC TEACHING: A Week of Teaching Visits program is intended to encourage intentionality and reflection on teaching choices and contexts.  These observations are not intended as critiques of teachers, nor are they meant to be a way for teachers to gather feedback about their performance.  Instead, these classroom observations provide an opportunity for real-world observations about the pedagogical choices we make as teachers. Teaching, rather than class content, should be the focus of the observation.
