A message from Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Melanie Stein.

Dear Ithaca College Community,

It is with great pleasure that I announce that Steve TenEyck has been selected as the new dean of the Ithaca College School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. He began his new role on March 1.

Steve’s unique experiences and expertise as a faculty member, administrator, and theatrical designer provide him with the skills in collaboration, strategic visioning, management, and engagement needed to effectively represent the work of the students, faculty, and academic programs in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance.

An accomplished professional lighting and scenic designer for theatre, opera, performance art, dance, architecture, and live events, Steve has been a faculty member at Ithaca College since 2001. He has made impactful contributions to our community through his teaching, mentoring, and service to the institution at all levels, including making countless campus events shine.

During his time as co-interim dean for this past year and in his previous roles as associate dean and department chair, Steve has demonstrated an understanding of the rich history of Ithaca College’s beginnings as a music conservatory, the importance of fostering an environment that promotes curricular and cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the imperative to adopt a student-first approach, ensuring that Ithaca College is seen as the gold standard for performing arts education and scholarship both now and in the future.

I am confident that Steve will be a champion for the strength, rigor, vibrancy, and scope of the performing arts experience at IC, which is deeply rooted in learning through theory, practice, and performance, and that under his leadership the school will contribute to the overall excellence and innovation of the college.

I wish to thank the search committee, co-chaired by Associate Professor of Theatre and Dance Performance Marc Gomes and Associate Professor of Music Theory, History, and Composition Crystal Peebles, for its work in bringing in an outstanding pool of worthy candidates for this position.

I also would like to thank Luis Loubriel, who has so ably served alongside Steve for this past year as co-interim dean and will be returning to his previous role as associate dean.

You can learn more about Steve and his vision for our School of MTD in this news story.

Please join me in congratulating Steve on his selection to this new role at Ithaca College.

Regards,

Melanie Stein
