“CAPS is proud to maintain the high standards of our care for IC students and the IACS accreditation is a continuing recognition of this effort,” said Brian Petersen, director of the Center for Counseling, Health and Wellness. “It is important for the IC community to know that all CAPS counselors are committed to providing best practices in mental health care, within our scope of practice, and that we are committed to serving the entire community through our spectrum of counseling services and through partnering with other student service offices, and faculty/staff, on campus-wide initiatives such as JED Campus”.
IC joined JED Campus, a nationwide initiative of The Jed Foundation (JED) in 2020. The Jed Foundation is a nonprofit organization that partners with colleges to strengthen their mental health, substance misuse, and suicide prevention programs and systems.
Ithaca College CAPS houses a team of licensed and license-eligible professionals who promote and foster mental health, emotional well-being, and a sense of belonging among students. Their goal is to work collaboratively with students to address the issues and experiences that are important to them. CAPS offers free, confidential resources based upon a model and philosophy of care called Stepped Care 2.0, a multifaceted approach that values a variety of services.
Through a comprehensive peer review process, IACS confirms the highest standards are being met, validates professional excellence, and distinguishes standout counseling centers with its accreditation seal of approval. Continuing a legacy that dates back to 1949, IACS is committed to advancing quality worldwide, encouraging and working with all centers seeking accreditation.
