The community is invited to Ithaca College’s 30th annual Founder’s Day Concert in the Park, which will be held Sunday, September 18, at 2 p.m. in DeWitt Park in downtown Ithaca. This year’s program will be led by School of Music faculty members Benjamin Rochford and Rebekah Daniel as they conduct the Ithaca College Wind Symphony and Ithaca College Wind Ensemble. They will be assisted by guest conductor Aaron Burgess ’18 and graduate conductor Louis Mechaca ’24.
Among other works, the program will include “Italian Rhapsody,” “A Trumpeter’s Lullaby,” “Armed Forces Salute,” a march by Ithaca College's earliest band leader, Patrick Conway, and Gershwin’s “Someone to Watch Over Me.” Rochford will conclude the concert by conducting the Wind Ensemble in “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
Please bring a lawn chair or blanket to relax and enjoy this free performance, which is sponsored by the Friends of Ithaca College. Special thanks to Beverly Baker ’54 for 30 years of supporting this community event.
In the event of bad weather, the concert will move to Ford Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music, 146 Conservatory Drive, on the Ithaca College campus. Please check ithaca.edu/friends for details.
