On behalf of Ithaca College, Interim President La Jerne Terry Cornish has signed on to the United We Dream (UWD) amicus brief in support of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The brief argues that the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals should reverse a previous ruling by a federal judge that DACA was improperly established.
Interim President Cornish Signs DACA Amicus Brief
“It is important for Ithaca College to continue to stand with our peers in higher education to demonstrate unity on behalf of DACA students. Furthermore, our institutional vision is to be a global destination for those who seek to build thriving communities. Our participation in this action by the President’s Alliance is an important way for us to illustrate our full commitment to that aspiration.”

This amicus brief highlights the importance of higher education for DACA recipients, the contributions of DACA recipients to campuses and communities, and the opportunities to pursue higher education enabled by DACA. Many of the stories of DACA recipients included in the brief note their higher education journeys.
Cornish signed on to the amicus brief as part of the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, of which Ithaca College is a founding member. The organization of American college and university leaders is dedicated to increasing public understanding of how immigration policies and practices impact students, campuses, and communities. The alliance supports policies that create a welcoming environment for immigrant, undocumented, and international students on college campuses.
