Ithaca College will hold its 128th Commencement on Sunday, May 21, with some 1,160 graduates celebrated in a 10 a.m. ceremony in the Athletics and Events Center. Broadway producer Larry Hirschhorn, who earned his BFA degree in acting from Ithaca College in 1980, will deliver the main address.
The ceremony will be streamed live for viewing at ithaca.edu/commencement/livestream.
Hirschhorn has produced some of the most awarded plays and musicals on Broadway, Off-Broadway, on national tours, and in London. He has four Tony Awards to his credit, and could earn a fifth, as he is on the production team of “The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window,” which was recently nominated for Best Revival of a Play. He has stayed actively involved with Ithaca College’s theatre program throughout his career and was honored by the Ithaca College Alumni Association in 2016 with the Professional Achievement Award.
Graduating senior Francesca Infante-Meehan, who will be receiving a B.S. in Theatre Arts Management and a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing, will speak on behalf of the Class of 2023.
The college will recognize civil rights activist and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Loki Mulholland with an honorary Doctor of Letters degree. Mulholland founded and serves as executive director of the Joan Trumpauer Mulholland Foundation, which takes a multi-faceted approach to educating people in anti-racism. Mulholland studied cinema and photography and would have graduated from IC in 1994 had he not gotten stuck in Russia after studying and working abroad, consequently missing his final year. He was awarded his undergraduate degree in December 2022.
Retiring dean of the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance Linda Petrosino ’77, M.S. ’78 will be honored with the Ithaca College Presidential Medal, which recognizes a member or members of the Ithaca College family or valued partners of the institution whose lives embody the values of Ithaca College and demonstrate a strong sense of service and sustainability to the Ithaca College community and our world.
Also delivering remarks at Commencement will be Ithaca College President La Jerne Terry Cornish and Board of Trustees Chairman David H. Lissy ’87.
The college will also hold a Graduate Hooding and Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 20, to recognize all Ithaca College students who are earning master’s and doctoral degrees. Scott Doyle '98, the college’s director of energy management and sustainability, will be the featured speaker at this event, scheduled for 1 p.m. in the Athletics and Events Center.
