Ithaca College Theatre continues its 2021-2022 season with the five-time tony winning musical “Fun Home,” with music by Jeanine Tesori, book and lyrics by Lisa Kron. Presented in the Clark Theatre, “Fun Home” will run select dates between April 8 and April 15, 2022.
Based on the graphic novel written by Alison Bechdel, “Fun Home” dives deep into Alison’s past to tell the story of her father; the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family's Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing understanding of her own sexuality, and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father's hidden desires. “Fun Home” is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes.
“’Fun Home’ is a moving exploration of one person making peace with her past by facing her history with adult eyes and broken memories," said director Gavin Mayer.
“As a queer choreographer, it is rare to have the opportunity to work on a musical that’s focused on LGBTQIA+ stories,” says choreographer Aimee Rials. “It makes working on this production a very special process for me. The level of creative energy, collaboration, and talent in all areas has been a tremendous experience. As the choreographer, it was important for me to support the story, the characters, and the time in which the story exists. The 60’s and 70’s are always a fun time to explore with dance!"
