The final day of the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships was a memorable one for Ithaca College, as they crowned two national champions.
On the men’s side, the historic first year campaign of Jack Wadsworth ’25 was capped off with a national championship and NCAA record in the 100-meter backstroke. Wadsworth finished with a time of 46.45 seconds, becoming just the second student-athlete in the history of the men’s swimming and diving team to win a national championship.
Wadsworth also finished third in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 1:44.04 and second in the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 3:49.26. Additionally, he and the team of graduate student Stanley Zaneski, Ben Young ’25 and James Collishaw ’24 earned Honorable Mention All-American honors with their 16th place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:01.06.
The Bombers finished 18th overall in the competition.
On the women’s side, graduate student Ava Lowell was crowned the 3-meter dive champion with a dominant performance, finishing the day with a final score of 486.25 to earn her first national championship and her sixth career All-American honor.
In addition to becoming the second diver in program history to win an NCAA title, Lowell’s performance helped the Bombers finish 18th overall during the competition.
Rachel Lange ’23 also finished second in the consolation finals and 10th overall to be named Honorable Mention All-American with a score of 432.85. This was the third All-American honor of her career.
A total of 34 Ithaca College student-athletes have now won a total of 53 individual national championships.
