Ithaca College associate professor Donathan Brown was quoted in a McClatchy DC Bureau story about the rhetorical salvos fired by Democrat and Republican lawmakers amidst a government shutdown over President Donald J. Trump’s demand for funding to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
Brown criticized Sen. Lindsey Graham for claiming that Democratic negotiators called Republican supporters of the wall “racists.”
“Unfortunately, Senator Graham did not offer any examples or illustrations to bolster his claim, leaving much to be desired regarding such a charged accusation,” said Brown, an expert on political rhetoric and immigration policy who teaches in the college’s Department of Communication Studies.
