Six students from Ithaca College’s Roy H. Park School of Communications—christened the “Superb Six” by the Park School—traveled to New Orleans to broadcast from Radio Row, the heart of Super Bowl LIX’s media frenzy. Comprised of sports media majors Justin Antonucci '26, Parker Hollendoner '25, Alex Tchiprout '25, and Tobiah Zboray '25 and television and digital media production majors Bryan Manchester '25 and Lindsey Peters '25, the Superb Six embedded themselves alongside professional journalists, broadcasters, and content creators at the Caesars Superdome.

The nucleus of Super Bowl media activities, Radio Row convenes the major networks, star athletes, sports and entertainment journalists, influencers, and streaming platforms to conduct interviews, produce content, and capture the charged atmosphere. For the Superb Six, the opportunity provided more than a passive observational experience. So long as they seized the initiative, they could operate as professionals among industry veterans—and seize the initiative they did.

“You’re thrown into the fire with every other professional media outlet that’s there,” says Antonucci of the experience. “You gotta think on the fly quick, you gotta adapt quickly.”

Peters scored candid interviews with NFL legends-turned-analysts Michael Strahan, Rob Gronkowski (the eponymous “Gronk”), Howie Long, and Jimmy Johnson while also catching Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ coveted attention amidst the media throng for a response that was shared by People Magazine (“Who would be your dream celebrity to watch you play a game?” Spoiler alert: it’s Taylor Swift, whom Mahomes calls “the top” in his response.)

“You’re thrown into the fire with every other professional media outlet that’s there ... You gotta think on the fly quick, you gotta adapt quickly.”

“I feel very blessed and honored that I got to go, especially as a student,” says Peters. “I didn’t even start my career yet, and I have so many experiences which are going to set me up for life.”

NFL Network writer and analyst Adam Rank teased Tchiprout for beating him to asking questions to Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce while welcoming the group to the profession with some earnest career advice. Tchiprout also drew thoughtful answers from Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie about running back Saquon Barkley’s historical season and lauded signing.

“Nobody looked at us as ‘less than’ because we were college students. They looked at us like we are one of them. We are working professionals in the field.”

Donning a Ravens-purple suit, Baltimore fan Hollendoner interviewed Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton and linebacker Kyle Van Noy, who complimented his professionalism (as well as attire) and shared some defensive shoptalk. Antonucci landed an opening night interview with writer and pundit Ian Rapoport, who spoke about his league-rocking scoop that broke earlier that day, announcing Cleveland Browns star Miles Garrett’s request to be traded.

“Nobody looked at us as ‘less than’ because we were college students,” says Manchester. “They looked at us like we are one of them. We are working professionals in the field.”

“To call this experience successful would be an understatement,” said Rhys Finch, the Park School’s manager of television and radio operations. “The Superb Six took to Radio Row like a duck takes to water, adapting to challenges on a daily basis and delivering engaging radio, social, and television-ready packages under tight deadlines. Their professionalism in both their appearance and performance was noted by many professionals throughout the week. Not only were the students able to create great programming, but the experience and connections of being amongst media giants bodes well for their future endeavors and careers.”

The Superb Six created a wrap-up video highlighting their experiences and reflecting on the opportunity.

“I remember my first day touching [broadcast] equipment ... You start day one … learning right away, and that was such an advantage.”

Since it’s no secret that Park alumni have carved careers across every sector of the media and entertainment world, Radio Row also served as a miniature IC reunion. The Superb Six connected with CBS Sports Executive Vice President of Communications Jennifer Sabatelle ’94, podcaster and senior writer at The Athletic Andrew Marchand ’96, and sports radio host Jake Asman ’17. The alumni shared career advice, reflections about their time at IC, and how the hands-on experience afforded to Park students proved foundational to their careers.

“I remember my first day touching [broadcast] equipment,” recalled Sabatelle in an interview with the team. “You start day one … learning right away, and that was such an advantage.”

Reflecting on his time at IC and specifically the WICB student radio station, Marchand said, “The biggest thing about Ithaca that I think makes it stand out is you get hands-on experience.”

“[Ithaca College] was amazing for the hands-on experience,” Asman echoed his fellow alumni. “As a freshman, within two weeks, I was doing a sports update on [student radio] VIC.”

Asman, who also attended Radio Row as a student, reflected, “This was my favorite week of college when I was an IC student, so enjoy it.”

Finch summed up reactions to the Superb Six’s work from those watching on campus: “From my point of view, they did the Park School, WICB, ICTV, and all of us who couldn't be there alongside them proud. We hope to continue this tradition and look forward to the next Superb Six who will represent Park in Santa Clara, California, at Super Bowl LX.”
