Join us for an exciting evening of rhythm and movement! The West African Drumming and Dance Ensemble will present an unforgettable concert, featuring authentic dances from Ghana and Nigeria. The performance will include a special guest appearance by the Worlds of Music class, with dance instruction led by Ty Benners. Under the direction of Dr. Baruch Whitehead, Professor of Music Education at Ithaca College, the ensemble brings an immersive experience of West African culture. The West African Drumming and Dance Ensemble, directed by Dr. Whitehead, is dedicated to exploring the dynamic traditions of West African music. Through direct engagement with "authentic" African musical instruments, the ensemble investigates specific musical styles, social functions, and the analytical study of dance movements across various contexts—ritual, ceremonial, religious, and recreational.
