Introducing Profile Pages

Say goodbye to WPM-driven faculty and staff profiles like this one. Profiles are moving to Drupal and will offer faculty and staff superior options for crafting their own professional spaces within Ithaca.edu.

Did you know that every Ithaca College faculty member has a web page? In fact, every IC employee — faculty and staff — has a basic profile that is automatically generated as part of our directory system.

When expanded with additional content, these profiles can play an important role in helping our professors promote their research, their teaching methods and coursework, and often serve as a valuable resource for students. Staff members can provide the campus community with info about their professional skills and experience, the work they do for the college, or anything else they wish to share.

Those profiles now mark the final chunk of legacy web content to be migrated from our old Web Profile Manager (WPM) system onto the new Drupal-powered website launched in 2018. When this work is complete, it will mean all our web pages come from the same place. Finally!

What’s this mean for you?

Well, if you’ve never touched your faculty or staff profile: nothing, really. Your title and contact info — office location, email, and telephone number — on file through our Human Resources systems will still automatically populate your profile.

If you’ve added additional content to your profile, or have plans to do so, then the short answer is that you’ll have a far more robust and capable system to build out your personalized nook within Ithaca.edu. Text, images, videos and more can all be added with ease; you can create additional pages within your profile; and perhaps best of all, you don’t need to reach out to Information Technology to add a professional photograph to your profile!

What’s more, thanks to the design responsiveness baked into Drupal, your profile will look great whether it’s being viewed on a 24-inch desktop monitor or a smartphone.

Here's a glimpse of what the profiles look like and what all this means for you:

Features

Improvements in faculty and staff profiles include:

  • Ability to edit or override your system-generated contact info
  • Add a profile photo with ease!
  • Embed photos and videos (from YouTube, Vimeo, or Kaltura) easily in the body of your profile or child pages
  • Robust formatting options so you can take your résumé or C.V. out of that PDF or Word format and turn it into actual web content
  • Attach files as necessary

Profile FAQs

Frequently asked questions (and answers!) about faculty and staff profiles in Drupal.

No, you don't have to upload a photo. The design is optimized for a photo to be included, but it's not mandatory.

Nope! If you don't want to add anything to your profile except what appears by default (name, title, office location, phone number and email address), you don't have to.

Email web@ithaca.edu with questions or help requests, and someone from the team will get back to you within two (2) business days.

Yes. We plan to keep the old content available to profile owners into the first quarter of 2021. Anyone who has old content they can't migrate to Drupal will be able to use this time to review, copy, or seek other options for making their old content available even after their new profile is live.
