As initiated by the 2009 Climate Action Plan, IC measures the amount of greenhouse gas emissions it creates each fiscal year. Ithaca College has stated through this plan that it seeks to be climate neutral by 2050. To date, IC has reduced its emissions by approximately half. Challenging work remains to reduce its remaining emissions.
GHG Emissions are made up of Scope 1 (direct carbon emissions from stationary and mobile fuel sources), Scope 2 (emissions from purchased electricity), and Scope 3 (indirect emissions). 2007 serves as the base year for measuring IC’s GHG Emissions. In FY2007, IC measured a net 32,781 MTCO2E. In its most recent measurement (FY2021) IC measured a net 16,956 MTCO2E. For more detail on visit the IC SIMAP Annual GHG Report noted below.
