From Downtown to Dillingham to Park - our school's legacy began in 1931 with Ithaca College's first course in Radio. From there, communications and media classes expanded. Majors were created. In 1973, the School of Communications was created to encompass a variety of majors in the field of communications and media. The school took on the moniker of the Roy H. Park School of Communications in 1989 with the opening of its own building. And that's just a tiny bit of our incredible history.
During the 2023-24 Academic year, the Roy H. Park School of Communications began hosting a series of events to celebrate half a century of becoming a school, and its proud history beforehand.
We had a fantastic time with our big kickoff celebration during Alumni Weekend in Ithaca, October 27-29, 2023. Big thanks to everyone who has joined us - you can see photos from those events here.
For our next big celebration, we traveled to NYC on Friday, April 5th for the Empowered by Park alumni happy hour featuring five illuminating young alumni who are making a difference through media. Watch the video below that was produced by our students in Park Productions.
The 50th anniversary celebration will continue on to Los Angeles in October where it will be a double celebration with the 30th anniversary of ICLA and the return of The Rod Serling Award for Advancing Social Justice Through Popular Media - stay tuned for more details.
