Speech-Language Pathology with Teacher Certification (M.S.)

The areas of professional practice for speech-language pathologists are rapidly expanding, as are the types of clients they are expected to serve. In fewer than two years, our Master’s program in speech-language pathology with teacher certification (SLPTC) maximizes opportunities for broad clinical experience as well as academic instruction.

Curriculum Overview

You will complete at least 55 credits of coursework on core content areas such as phonological disorders, swallowing, aphasia, fluency, and augmentative and alternative communication. Our program requires full-time study for 5 semesters, and degree requirements must be completed within two years of matriculation. If you decide to complete a thesis, you may need at least one semester of additional study and at least five additional credits to complete the degree (60 total).

Your classroom study will include courses in:

  • Early Intervention for Children with Communication Disorders
  • Speech-Language Pathology in Educational Settings
  • Fluency Development and Disorders
  • Language Disorders in Children Ages 3 to 21

You will also work directly with clients starting in your first semester on campus. As a result, you will be well prepared for your final semester, which consists of two full-time externships, when you will experience the rigors and responsibilities of professional work. For at least one of these externships, you will complete a professional experience in an educational setting.

The program concludes with a comprehensive examination that is structured similarly to the national Praxis exam.
