During the Advising Period, students must schedule an advising and course selection appointment with their academic adviser(s). Advising in the School of Humanities and Sciences is mandatory. Students must meet with their academic advisers to obtain a registration access code (RAC) which is necessary to register for courses.
Students should use their advising appointment to ask questions about majors/minors, courses, possible summer coursework, internships, and to review midterm grades. It is helpful to review your degree evaluation and academic transcript before and during your advising appointment. Being proactive in reviewing your degree evaluation will help you and your adviser plan for course selection as well as resolve any discrepancies that can delay completion of your degree requirements. If you have not utilized or do not know where to find your degree evaluation, check out the Office of the Registrar’s tutorial. All Student degree evaluations are now on Degree Works.
As mid-term grades are due near the beginning of the advising and registration period, students who are struggling in a course should take the opportunity prior to or at their advising meeting to discuss options with the course professor as well as review the tutoring options from Tutoring Services. If the course is not salvageable, the student may consider withdrawing from the course. Students who wish to withdraw from a semester course should be aware that there is a deadline for doing so, which can be found on the Academic Calendar. The withdraw form is available online and must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar.
