Emilia Illana Mahiques is a Linguistics Instructor for the course "Language and the Mind" (LINGS 24200) at Ithaca College. She is also a Spanish Lecturer and course coordinator at Cornell University. She completed her Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition at the University of Iowa.
She specializes in instructed second language acquisition (ISLA), curriculum design, and task-based language teaching (TBLT). Her research interests focus on peace pedagogies in teacher education and foreign language instruction.
As the vice-president of the organization Higher Ed Resources for Open Education (Spanish) and founding member of the TBLTea Video Series initiative, she works with other professionals and practitioners in the field creating publicly available videos related to the task-based approach. Recipient of various Cornell grants, she has developed a wide range of projects, and her work has received public recognition in the Cornell Chronicle and the Language Resource Center podcast, among others.
