I joined the department and started to teach Chinese language in the fall semester of 2008. In the past 17 years, I have
- taught all levels of Chinese language courses offered at Ithaca College: Elementary Chinese 101-102, Intermediate Chinese 201-202, and Advanced Conversational Chinese 32300.
- created and taught new Chinese courses CHIN 32300 Advanced Conversational Chinese and CHIN 19400 Love, War and The Supernatural in Chinese Literature and Culture .
- supervised TAs to run TA sessions for Chinese 101, 102, 201 and 202 classes. My job includes recruiting TAs and making drill sheets for TAs to use in the classes, talking with the TAs regularly to monitor the progress in the TA sessions.
- written recommendation letters for students; recommending students for paid jobs of peer mentoring in Chinese at Ithaca College.
- given talks regularly on topics of Chinese language, movies, culture, and social changes in the classes of my own department and other departments and schools, such as Politics Department, Business School and School of Health Science and Human Performance in Ithaca College.

Selected Academic Activities
- On November 2015, attended the “Item Review conference” held in Albany, NY. The purpose of the two-day conference was to review the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations in Chinese language. The conference was organized by the New York State Education department and by the Pearson publishing house.
- Summer 2013: Took part in a 9-day exploratory trip in Taiwan, sponsored by the Chinese Youth Solidarity (a Taiwanese not-for-profit organization), visited universities (National Taiwan University, Tunghai University), environment protection groups, think tanks, and governmental agencies (education ministry, ministry of foreign affairs etc.), presented paper titled “Modernity and the Taiwan Experience”
- Feb. 15-17, 2012: Attended NABE (National Association for Bilingual Education) conference in Dallas, Texas, using funds from School of Humanity and Sciences of IC. I presented “Using Multicultural Education to Ignite, Inspire, and Internalize Language Learning” at the conference with Prof. Cathrene Connery of the Education Department, Ithaca College.
Selected Community Volunteer Work
- 2010-2015: Registered with Ithaca School District to be Chinese language interpreter. Worked at Northeast Elementary School and Dewitt Middle school, translating classroom rules and test contents from English to Chinese during New York State Exam times, and interpreting for parents during parent-teacher conferences.
- Occasionally functioned as translator/interpreter for exchange programs between Ithaca College and university delegates from China and for visiting Chinese scholars at Ithaca College. For example, in February 2012, I served as an interpreter for Dr. Cao Hongkai, professor and chair of Music Department of Tianjin Normal University, translating his lecture to the Ithaca College students and faculty; on September19, 2013, I did one-hour translation for President Rochon when he met with a delegation from Shanghai Normal University.
