Jasmine Gayle (’17) published an article in Mindbodygreen entitled “How Reconnecting With Our Black Roots Can Help Us Heal.” The article was published in June, during a time of immense racial unrest disproportionately affecting the Black community in the United States. In the piece, Gayle takes an in-depth look at dance and music in Black culture, both the history behind it and the way it has manifested in modern-day life.
Throughout the article, Gayle also draws on personal experience. She says that when she listens and dances to Black music, she finds peace and joy, even in turbulent times. She urges her readers to “take the time to remind yourself that joy exists within your blood.”
