Keyboard Musicianship I (PFSM 17100) and Keyboard Musicianship II (PFSM 17200) are required for all music majors EXCEPT piano and organ majors.
SKILLS AND TOPICS COVERED IN KEYBOARD MUSICIANSHIP I (PFSM 17100):
- Perform all major scales, 2 octaves, traditional fingering, hands together, in eighth notes, quarter = 72
- Perform major arpeggios, 2 octaves, traditional fingering, hands alone, in eighth notes, quarter = 72
- Sight read an elementary-level piano solo
- Harmonize familiar/folk tunes using I, IV, and V7
- Perform a short piano piece, of the repertoire equivalent to Beethoven German Dance, or Kabalevsky Scherzo
SKILLS AND TOPICS COVERED IN KEYBOARD MUSICIANSHIP II (PFSM 17200):
- Perform all harmonic minor scales, 2 octaves, traditional fingering, hands together, in eighth notes, quarter = 72
- Perform minor arpeggios, 2 octaves, traditional fingering, hands alone, in eighth notes, quarter = 72
- Sight read an elementary-level piano solo
- Harmonize familiar/folk tunes using diatonic triads, seventh chords, and secondary dominants
- Perform a short piano piece, Late Elementary or Early Intermediate level.
