The Ithaca College School of Music, Theatre, and Dance is pleased to offer numerous performing experiences for the non-music majors, including participation in bands, chorus, orchestra, instrumental & vocal jazz ensembles, and the West African Drumming and Dance ensemble. In general, these ensembles rehearse once or twice per week and perform once per semester.

These ensembles do not require an audition to join.

The Campus Band is intended for non-music majors to have an opportunity to continue to play an instrument in an ensemble. They perform a concert at the end of each semester, with a focus on high quality band literature. This ensemble is open to any student at Ithaca College who has previously played a wind or percussion instrument. There are no auditions for this ensemble. There will be one concert per semester.

Rehearsals are Monday evenings from 6:00pm until 7:50pm in Presser Hall in the James J. Whalen School of Music.

The Ithaca College Campus Choral Ensemble is a vocal ensemble open to any student at Ithaca College. It is intended primarily for the non-music major who would like to sing in a large vocal ensemble and is dedicated to the performance of repertoire that represents a wide variety of styles, time periods, and cultures. There are no auditions for this ensemble. One concert is scheduled each semester.

The ensemble rehearses Tuesday evenings from 6:05-7:55 in JJWCM 3104.

Students should register for MUNM 10302.

The Ithaca College Sinfonietta (ICS) is an instrumental ensemble open to any student at Ithaca College who has prior experience performing a traditional orchestral instrument (woodwinds, brass, strings, or percussion). The repertoire is primarily based on full and string orchestra literature ranging from NYSSMA grade III to VI, and is selected to provide an enriching opportunity for a range of performers to experience both musical growth and enjoyment. There are no auditions for this ensemble. One concert is scheduled each semester.

Rehearsals are held Thursday nights from 6-7:50pm in JJWCM 3102 (Presser).

Students should register for MUNM 10304.

West African Drumming and Dance Ensemble is open to all registered students at Ithaca College and is comprised of three performance components - drumming, singing, and dancing. Students have the opportunity to explore first-hand the exciting traditions of West African music by investigating specific musical styles and traditions directly on "authentic" African musical instruments. Social functions and analytical study of dance movements in ritual, ceremonial, religious, and recreational contexts are also investigated. Students will be expected to drum, sing, dance and attend the final group performance each semester.

Students should register for MUNM 10308.

Experience in jazz ensemble playing. Designed to introduce the basics of jazz to students with little or no previous jazz experience. Class meeting: Two hours per week. Zero to one-half credit for music majors; one credit for non-music majors.
