The Antisemitism and Other Hate Symbols Taskforce was convened by Ithaca College President La Jerne Terry Cornish in 2022 as an ad hoc committee, in response to antisemitic symbols found on the Ithaca College campus.

Prior to the formation of the task force, Ithaca College participated in a Campus Climate Initiative designed by Hillel International and TCC Group, a national consulting firm committed to collaboratively solving complex social sector problems. The report and recommendations from this initiative were reviewed to identify and implement strategies to combat antisemitism in policies, practices, curriculum, and programs, and used in part to consider and prioritize the work of this task force.

Taskforce Membership and Charge

The taskforce is comprised of a fluctuating membership of Ithaca College staff, faculty, and affiliated community partners. Members of the taskforce are appointed by an Executive Sponsorship group, led by:

  • Melanie Stein, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
  • Stanley Bazile, Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Life

The taskforce's organizing charge is to determine immediate actions, as well as longer-term structural changes that can be made to foster a more inclusive campus climate. Areas of work each year are guided by the needs of the campus community.
