Research

My research investigates the microbiome of coral reef habitats to better understand how disease and other reef disturbances impact the ecosystem. The main disturbance my research focuses on is stony coral tissue loss disease, a rapid and devastating disease that impacts up to 50% of coral species on Caribbean reefs. We investigate both coral and reef seawater microbiomes through metagenomic sequencing to investigate which bacteria and archaea reside in impacted or unimpacted areas.

Research Themes:

Seawater microbial ecology, coral microbiome, coral disease, microbial bioindicators, DNA sequencing, metagenomics, computational biology

I’m excited to offer opportunities in my lab for Spring 2025.
