Colin is an Associate Professor and the Technical Director for the Department of Theatre Arts. He teaches primarily in the B.F.A. Theatrical Production Arts program. He serves as Production Manager for the department and also has served as Technical Director for numerous departmental productions. He is responsible for running and maintaining the college scene shop and theater facilities. Courses taught include: Basic Theatre Technology, Stagecraft, Advanced Techniques of Stagecraft, Technical Direction for the Theatre, Moving Scenery and Automation, Senior Seminar in Technical Theatre and Senior Projects in Technical Theatre. Colin also mentors student technical directors and carpenters in production as well as in individual Theatre Projects and Independent Study Projects.
Besides teaching, Colin maintains an active professional theatre career. Most recently he has been a Technical Director at Williamstown Theatre Festival (Williamstown MA) and at the Hangar Theatre here in Ithaca.
Colin’s professional theatre career has spanned over 30 years, working as Production Manager, Technical Director or Master Carpenter for professional theatres, scene shops and academic theatres across the country. Some of the companies Colin has worked for include: Berkshire Theatre Festival (Stockbridge, MA), Studio Arena Theatre (Buffalo NY), Long Wharf Theatre (New Haven CT), Kitchen Theatre Company (Ithaca NY), Shea's Theatre (Buffalo NY), North Carolina Shakespeare Festival (High Point NC), Backstage Productions (Passaic NJ), North Carolina Scenic Studios (Winston-Salem NC), and SUNY College at Brockport's Department of Theatre. He has built scenery for theatre, opera, theme parks, toy fairs, large scale events, industrial presentations, and television.
Colin received his B.A.in Cultural Studies from Trent University (Peterborough, Ontario) and his M.F.A. in Technical Direction for the Theatre from North Carolina School of the Arts.
