Frank Ely joined Ithaca College (IC) in the Department of Exercise Science and Athletic Training as an instructor in 2023 and has served in the role of Assistant Professor since Fall of 2024. At IC, Dr. Ely teaches courses in the area of mental performance and sport psychology at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and serves as the advisor for the Sport and Exercise Psychology minor.
Dr. Ely’s research focuses on narrowing the research-to-practice gap in sport psychology by exploring ways to disseminate, translate, and implement research into practice. His passion for research lies in helping (para-)athletes and coaches both access information on psychological skills (e.g., imagery) and apply strategies to effectively implement skills into practice and competition. Before arriving at IC, Dr. Ely completed his Ph.D. at the University of Windsor (Ontario, Canada), where his dissertation work focused on developing an online psychological skills training program for para-athletes.
Outside of work, Dr. Ely enjoys playing fetch with his dog Parker, attending concerts with his partner Sara, and watching as much baseball as possible!
