About Jen Huemmer

Dr. Jen Huemmer joined Ithaca College in 2017 after earning her Ph.D. in Media and Communication from Texas Tech University. She has taught a range of courses including Public Relations, Research and Statistics for Strategic Communication, and Writing for Public Relations.

In her research, Dr. Huemmer applies theoretical frameworks from sociology and critical media studies to explore media as a process of meaning-making that is interpreted, negotiated, and resisted through the communication, actions, and interactions of individuals and communities. Her research has been published in journals such as Mass Communication and Society, Journalism, and Feminist Media Studies. In 2020, Dr. Huemmer’s research on the experience of mothers during the COVID-19 pandemic won the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication’s Mary Ann Yodelis Smith Award for Feminist Scholarship.
