Silvia M. Abbiati was born and raised in Milano, Italy, where she received her B.A. in Foreign Languages and Literatures (summa cum laude), and her M.A. degree in Applied Linguistics / Translation Studies. Her master thesis focused on English adjectival nouns and their Italian equivalents. After graduating, she moved to the United States where she worked as a computational linguist before receiving her M.S. degree in Organizational Communication, Learning and Design from Ithaca College in 2002. Silvia has an ABD in Translation Studies. Her areas of study include translation pedagogy, translation into a second language, and modern translation of medieval texts. She's currently translating an Italian medieval poem that has never been translated into English before.
Silvia is interested in producing pedagogical material. She has co-authored an intermediate-level Italian workbook and lab manual, and she is a contributing writer to an elementary-level Italian textbook and to an intermediate-level Italian book. Silvia is also a freelance translator, and she has published several Italian translations of English, French, and Spanish texts.
Silvia has been teaching at Ithaca College since 2000. She also loves cooking, solving rebuses, hiking, snorkeling, volunteering, and spending time with her beautiful children.
