Contact Us

Please contact IC Advancement Services at (607) 274-3938 or send an email to giving@ithaca.edu to tell us which Ithaca College broker you plan to use and where you would like your gift to be designated when it reaches Ithaca College. That way, the college will be able to anticipate the gift and can make the necessary arrangements for its receipt.

Mail

If your securities are not held by a broker, you can either mail or hand-deliver the certificates directly to IC Advancement Services.

If mailing, send your unendorsed certificates and a cover letter -- including your name, address, and purpose of the gift -- in one envelope. In a second envelope, send a signed, signature-guaranteed stock power form. The certificates and stock power form must be sent separately to ensure the security of the gift. Please DO NOT mail endorsed certificates! Once a certificate is endorsed, it is legal tender and can be exchanged by anyone.

Send the stock certificates and cover letter by registered mail, return receipt requested, to:
Ithaca College Advancement Services
Alumni Hall
953 Danby Road
Ithaca, NY 14850-7000

Under separate cover, by registered mail, send a signed stock power form to the above address. You can get a stock power form at your local bank.

The date of the gift is the postmark on the envelope containing the stock certificates or the envelope containing the stock power form, whichever the college receives last.

Hand Delivery

Endorsed certificates may be given to an Ithaca College development officer or delivered by hand to IC Advancement Services in Alumni Hall. If the certificates are not endorsed, a signed stock power form must be delivered as well. The form can be obtained at your local bank.

How Gifts Are Credited

For securities traded on an exchange, Ithaca College will establish a value for the gift by using the mean value between the high and low prices on the date the securities are transferred to the college. The transfer date (or the date on which you irrevocably part with the securities) depends on how the securities are delivered to Ithaca College.

  • Stock electronically transferred is valued as of the date one of Ithaca College's brokers receives it.
  • Stock that you mail to Ithaca College is valued as of the latest date of postmark of either the certificates or the signature-guaranteed stock power form, whichever arrives last.
  • Stock you hand-deliver to Ithaca College in negotiable form is valued as of the date Ithaca College receives it.
  • Stock that you send to a transfer agent for registering in the college's name is valued as of the date the stock is registered. Again, this is not the preferred method of delivery -- this procedure is unnecessary and results in needless delays of the transfer.

As soon as the college receives the stock, our brokers will sell it and we will send you a receipt for the value of the gift.
