What advice would you give new first-gen students?
I would encourage the first-gen student to get involved. My first few weeks on campus were difficult because I had a hard time feeling like I belong. I feel like if you get out of your comfort zone and make an effort to join a club or organization you’ll find individuals to relate to who you may potentially become great friends with.
Student Organizations, Clubs, or Athletic Teams you are a part of:
First Generation Organization Ithaca Achievement Program F19-Ithaca college women's club Rugby D.O.P.E Steppers of Ithaca College isign (American Sign Language Club)
Do you hold any leadership positions or other jobs on campus?
F19/S20-Student Governance Council: School of Health Science and Human performance Senator Student employee-Terrace Dining Hall
Are you fluent in any other languages?
My native language is called Chizigula also known as Kizigua. I also know basic American Sign Language at a conversational level, which I am currently practicing.
What is your dream job?
A health profession where I get to wake up everyday and be able to help other individuals
Favorite class you’ve taken at IC? (And why?)
Ithaca Seminar: Transnational and Transracial Adoption Stories Through the anthropological lens we examined the cultural and racial politics and personal experiences of transnational and transracial adoption. This class was very engaging and fun. The professor not only ensured that we were on track for academic success but also our well being.
