Compared to past Courts, today’s Supreme Court is constructed in a fashion far less consistent with the democratic principle of majority rule. In this free public lecture, Prof. Kevin McMahon will discuss the distinctive nature of the current Supreme Court and the challenges this presents for We the People. Prof. McMahon is the John R. Reitemeyer Professor of Political Science at Trinity College (Connecticut). He is the author of two award-winning books, Reconsidering Roosevelt on Race, and Nixon’s Court. His forthcoming book on the current Supreme Court will be published in 2024 by the University of Chicago Press. This Constitution Day 2023 lecture is sponsored by the Legal Studies Program at Ithaca College, in honor of Constitution Day (September 17, 2023).
