Summer Positions

We have a variety of summer employment opportunities available this year. Applications will be available mid to late March. All applicants must be current students and enrolled for the Fall 2023 semester. Qualified applicants will be in good conduct and academic standing. Applicants who do not meet these standards may be deemed ineligible to be employed by the Office of Residential Life. Interviews will be scheduled with selected applicants to occur late March into April. Notice to all unsuccessful applicants will be made as soon as is practical.

Summer Employment Opportunities

Only current or former Resident/Apartment Assistants can apply for this position. Former Resident/Apartment Assistants applying for a summer RA/AA position must have left the RA/AA position in good standing. Former RAs/AAs that have been terminated are not eligible to apply for the summer RA/AA position. Priority deadline to apply for this position is Thursday, March 30, 2023.

Resident/Apartment Assistants work specifically with Ithaca College summer students and summer student employees. The successful applicants will reside in the Summer Student Housing Residence Halls (Terraces) or Circle Apartments throughout the term of their appointment. Summer RAs will be supervised by the Summer Housing Supervisor, summer AAs will be supervised by the Circles Community Director. Summer RA/AAs will maintain a rotating duty schedule. The duty RA/AA will be required to be available in the residence hall from 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. while on duty, and will plan social programs.

On-campus housing and summer meal plan will be provided for Resident Assistants. On-campus housing will be provided for Apartment Assistants. Because these positions are primarily focused on evening commitments, Resident/Apartment Assistants may hold other daytime employment or attend summer session classes.

Multiple summer RA positions are available, to start approximately Monday, May 22, 2023, and will end Wednesday, August 16, 2023. Multiple summer AA positions are available to start approximately Monday, May 22, 2023 and will end Saturday, July 1, 2023. Both these positions count for 2.5 hours per week towards the student on-campus employment hours per week limit.

All summer RAs and AAs should plan to be available to work check in/check out for NYS Special Olympics, Friday June 9th to Sunday June 11th.

Applicants who do not have a GPA of at least a 2.5, and who wish to take summer classes will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Summer Housing Assistants, under the supervision of the Summer Housing Office managers, provide live-in assistance for conference guests. Duties include conference group preparation, room inspections, check-in, check-out, post-conference reviews, and general clerical support in the summer housing office. Multiple positions are available.

Summer Housing Assistants create and update guest information displays and provide on-call response to conference guest after-hour needs as necessary. The Summer Housing Assistants assist with the staffing of the Summer Housing office which is open 7 days a week from 9:00am to 9:00pm every day of the summer.

All summer Housing Assistants must be available to work for NYS Special Olympics, Monday June 10th to Sunday June 16th.

Summer Housing Assistants are full-time positions and will be paid $15.15 per hour. On-campus housing is provided for these positions. These positions will start Wednesday, May 15, 2024, and will end Tuesday, August 20, 2024. Summer Housing Assistants may have limited opportunity to attend summer classes, or work another job (including pre-semester programs), which will be discussed on a case-by-case basis. Applicants must have a GPA of at least a 2.5 and be in good conduct standing.

The summer housing Office Assistant position provides administrative office support to the summer housing staff. They will assist with all facets of the summer conference program including customer contact both in-person and by telephone. They will create and maintain group rosters through the campus computer network, coordinate information, answer questions for other campus offices, and maintain office supplies.

The summer housing Office Assistant is a full-time position and will be paid $15.00 per hour. On-campus housing and meals are available at the summer employee rate. One position is available and will start Wednesday, May 15, 2024, and will end Tuesday, August 20, 2024. Applicants must have a GPA of at least a 2.5 and be in good conduct standing.

A Student Operations Assistant is a student staff member of the Office of Residential Life. Student Operations Assistants assist in the room inspection and damage billing process, escort contractors, set-up and breakdown of Extended Occupancy Housing locations, follow-up inspections, special projects and other duties as may be assigned. This position is supervised by the Assistant Director for Operations, the Coordinator for Residential Facilities, or the Circles Apartment Community Director.

The Student Operations Assistant is a full-time position and will be paid $15.30 per hour. On-campus housing and meals are available at the summer employee rate. Multiple positions are available and will start Wednesday, May 15, 2024, and will end Sunday, August 24, 2024. Applicants must have a GPA of at least a 2.5 and be in good conduct standing.

Housing and Meal Guidelines

Summer employees living in the Circle apartments are not required to be on a meal plan. Summer employees living in the Terraces, Quads, or Towers are required to be on a summer meal plan. The cost of the summer meal plan is $45.00 per week, and is billed based on the dates submitted on the Summer Housing and Meals Registration form found on the Summer Housing webpage.

Summer positions that require staff to serve on duty provide free housing. Summer Housing Assistants can choose to forgo this part of their compensation if they have off-campus housing or a Circle Apartment, but the student is required to sleep on main campus in a designated room the nights that they serve duty.

Summer employees who receive free housing as part of their employment can only work on-campus a maximum of 37.5 hours a week. Their free housing counts as 2.5 hours a week.

For example: The Summer RA position counts as 2.5 hours a week. The student can also work for the Admissions Office up to 37.5 hours a week.
