Fall 2024 Family/Supporter Orientation Sessions

  • 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Early Arrival Move-in and Orientation Check-in (for Jumpstart participants, international students, and certain fall athletes), Athletics and Events Center Arena
    • Students must check in to receive their room key, ID card, and orientation materials then move in to their residence hall.
  • 4:15–4:45 p.m. Early Arrival New Student & Family/Supporter Welcome, Athletics and Events Center Arena
    • Kick off orientation with a short welcome with some IC VIPs and a chance to win some IC swag!
  • 9 a.m.–4 p.m. New Student Move-in and Orientation Check-in, Athletics and Events Center
    • Students must check in to receive their room key, ID card, and orientation materials then move in to their residence hall.
  • 4:15–4:45 p.m. New Student and Family/Supporter Welcome, Athletics and Events Center Arena
    • Kick off orientation with a short welcome with some IC VIPs and a chance to win some IC swag!
  • 5:15–6:15 p.m. Family/Supporter Orientation Session: Getting to Know Your Student’s School
    • Attend a welcome from the Dean and meet with faculty and staff from your student's academic department.
      • School of Business: Business 111
      • Park School of Communications: Athletics and Events Center Arena
      • School of Health Sciences and Human Performance: Emerson Suites, Campus Center
      • School of Humanities & Sciences: Ford Hall, Whalen Center for Music
      • School of Music, Theater, and Dance: Hockett Family Recital Hall, Whalen Center for Music
  • 9 a.m.–noon Parent/Family Orientation Sessions, Athletics and Events Center Arena (will be recorded)
    • 9–10 a.m. Just Between Us: Join Elizabeth Bleicher, Dean of Student Success, for straight talk, insider intel, and practical strategies to help your student transition to college academics. Bonus: includes all-time MVPs in Worst Idea Hall of Fame so you don't make their mistakes. 
    • 10–11 a.m. Wellness at IC: Learn about the IC resources available to support your student and their many levels of wellness throughout their college journey. 
    • 11 a.m.–noon Safety at IC: Your students' safety is our top priority, and we are committed to providing a secure environment where students can focus on their studies and enjoy their college experience. 
  • Noon–3 p.m. Lunch and Resource Fair (students & families/supporters), Athletics and Events Center Arena
    • Join us for lunch and connect with staff from a variety of important campus departments. 
    • This event concludes parent and family programming.

Parent, Family, and Supporter Summer Webinar Series

Beginning in July, we will be hosting themed optional webinars designed to help new students, families, and supporters with preparing for, transitioning to, and connecting with Ithaca College. These will be recorded and posted to our webpage.

As August approaches, we want to ensure your students have fulfilled all the requirements for a smooth transition to Ithaca College. Join us to learn about the final steps, important actions to take, and get answers to any questions you may have.

The webinar will focus on common psychological and adjustment issues that arise for first-year students, especially during the first six weeks of school. In addition, students and supporters will learn about services available at the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services, and parents and supporters will be informed about issues related to confidentiality and supporting their students to seek help if needed.

Join Career Engagement Specialist Cooper Rothman to learn how the office of Career Exploration and Development supports students' journeys of self-discovery and academic exploration while at Ithaca College. Discover how personalized counseling, resources and workshops empower students to navigate potential career paths confidently and professionally.

Ithaca College is determined to foster an inclusive and welcoming space for all of our students. Family Council will cover topics such as: dealing with homesickness, supporting your student while empowering them, coping with empty nest syndrome, and more.

Transitioning to college can lead to a lot of adjustments in your student's schedule and wellness routine. Come learn about how you can talk with your student about alcohol and other substances, sleep hygiene, stress management, and setting up healthy wellness routines.

IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT PARENT & FAMILY ORIENTATION
  • Students indicate on the Orientation Registration Form (accessed via their New Student Checklist) how many family members and supporters will be attending Fall Orientation with them so we can plan for space and food needs. There is no separate family RSVP form for orientation.
  • There is no separate fee for family orientation; it's covered in the orientation fee that will be included on students' fall bills.
  • There will not be any parent/family programming on August 20. 
  • For early arrival families leaving campus on or before August 19, and those unable to attend family sessions on August 21-22, please note that family sessions on Thursday, August 22 from 9 a.m.–noon EST will be recorded. Links for these recordings will be provided on this page following orientation.
