IC is proud to build green. Each of the most recent buildings built on campus have been built according to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards developed by the US Green Building Council. LEED is a holistic system for assessing building projects beyond just one element like energy, water, or health. 35% of the LEED criteria are related to climate change, 20% human health, 15% water resources, 10% biodiversity, 10% “green economy”, and 5% community and natural resources.
Building projects must earn points related to various credits that are certified by Green Business Certification Inc. Based on how many points a project garners, buildings can be can be LEED Certified, LEED Silver, LEED Gold, or the highest rated LEED Platinum. IC’s Comprehensive Environmental Policy calls on the College to strive to meet the equivalent of at least LEED Silver in new building designs.
Ithaca College currently includes the following 4 LEED buildings on campus.
- Park Center for Business and Sustainable Enterprise (2008) – LEED Platinum
- Peggy Ryan Williams Center (2010) – LEED Platinum
- Classroom Link (2010) – LEED Gold
- Athletic & Events Center (2014) – LEED Gold
